5 Ansar-al-Islam members held in city


haka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested five members of a family for their alleged link with the banned militant outfit Ansar-al-Islam—also known as the Ansarullah Bangla Team—from the Rupnagar area of the capital.

Three of the arrestees were identified as Abu Saleh Mohammad Jakaria, Kibria and Ahammad Ali.

Confirming the news, Mahiduzzaman, Superintendent of Police (Media) of ATU said the members of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police went to conduct a raid based on a tip-off at the fourth floor of a six-storey building at Rupnagar residential area around 1:30am on Saturday.

 

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the members of the militant outfit exploded several crude bombs and attack police with locally made weapons, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate. Later, police arrested bullet hit Jakarai and four others members of the family from the spot, he said.

Of them, Zakaria was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the police officer said.

Three members of the police injured in the attack, Saleh Mohammad Jakaria added.

Police also claimed to have recovered several sharp weapons and some jihadi books from the spot.
