Pro-AL Blue Panel wins DUTA polls


The Pro-Awami League Blue Panel teachers again gained landslide victory in the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) election on Thursday.

The Chief Election Commissioner Prof Sitesh Chandra Bachar announced the results at Dhaka University Club around 5:00 pm.

The Blue Panel bagged 14 posts out of the 15-member executive committee while its rival BNP and Jamaat-backed White Panel won only Vice-president post of the committee.

Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science won the President post from Blue Panel, defeating Prof ABM Obaidul Islam of White Panel. Prof Bhuiyan bagged 819 votes while his rival Prof Islam got 384 votes.

In addition, Prof Zeenat Huda of Sociology department  won the General Secretary post from Blue Panel defeating Prof Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan of White Panel. Prof Huda got 712 votes while Prof Rahman bagged 581 votes.

Prof Md Lutfar Rahman (White Panel) of Statistics Department won the Vice-President post while Dr Md Masudur Rahman of Marketing Department and Dr Abu Khaled Mohammad Khademul Haque of Islamic History and Culture Department were elected Treasurer and Joint-Secretary respectively.

Besides, Dr Ziaur Rahman of Criminology Department, Dr AGM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan of Television Film and Photography Department, Dr Md Amjad Ali of History Department, Dr Chandra Nath Podder of Mathematics Department, Dr Sharmin Musa of Zoology Department, Md Kamrul Islam of Chemistry Department,  Dr Sharif Akhtaruzzaman of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Dr KM Saiful Islam Khan of Department of Persian Language and Literature, Dr Maksudur Rahman of Geography and Environment Department, and Dr Ali Akkas of Management Department were elected as executive members of the committee from Blue Panel tickets.
