Six detained over disappearance of documents from Health Ministry

CID's Crime Scene Unit has arrested six people for questioning in connection with the disappearance of 16 important documents of the Health Education Department of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

They were arrested on Sunday. The detainees are Joseph, Ayesha, Badal, Bari, Mintu, Faisal.

Earlier, the unit went to the secretariat in the morning to investigate the incident. A general diary (GD) has already been filed at Shahbagh police station in the capital over the incident.

In addition, the Ministry of Health has formed a three-member investigation committee.

Shahbagh Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moudut Hawlader said yesterday, ‘Deputy Secretary of the Health Ministry Nadira Haider filed a GD last Thursday over the disappearance of important documents.

“The investigation will start from today as the secretariat was closed yesterday. Who or what made the documents disappear will be investigated, he added.”

Seventeen files, mostly related to purchase by different public medical colleges, have disappeared the ministry at the secretariat, officials said on Saturday.

Files on purchase by Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College, Rajshahi Medical College and other medical colleges, vehicle allocation and purchase for training schools, and the population-based cervical and breast cancer screening programme, including electronic data tracking, were among the files that went missing on Wednesday, according to the general diary.

Documents relating to several projects of the nursing and midwifery directorate and the health education bureau also went missing.
