Indian PM calls for redesigning world order collectively

Ahead of G-20 summit, India has given a call to attempt redesigning global political and financial governance as it stood for a greater role for developing countries.

While inaugurating 'Voice of Global South' virtual summit from Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Together we must attempt to redesign global political and financial governance. This can remove inequalities, enlarge opportunities, support growth and spread progress and prosperity."

The summit is organised by India for the first time where Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined from her official residence Ganabhaban through video. She thanked PM Modi for inviting her to an important summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "As India begins its G20 Presidency this year, it is natural that our aim is to amplify the 'Voice of the Global South'. For our G20 Presidency, we have picked up the theme of 'One earth, One family, One future'. We believe the path to realize 'oneness' is through human centric development and people of global south should no longer be excluded from fruits of development," he added.

Modi has called for united actions of the Global southern countries to change the eight decade old model of governance which works slowly, thereby indicating reform in the United Nations for giving voice of the developing world.

He said "We (the global south) have the largest stakes in the future. Three fourths of humanity live in our countries. We should have equivalent voice. We should try to shape the emerging order."

He emphasised that India always shared its developmental experience with global south countries. India has supplied medicines and vaccines to over 100 countries during pandemic, apart from always standing for a greater role for developing countries in determining common future.

While referring to previous year witnessing war, conflict, terrorism and geopolitical tension PM Modi admits, "The world is in a state of crisis and it is difficult to predict how long this state of instability will last. The crisis is aggravated by rising food, fertilizer and fuel prices, climate change driven natural disasters and lasting economic impact of the COVID pandemic.”

PM Modi has given a call to raise voice collectively in the coming G20 Summit for responding to the priorities of the global south by framing an inclusive and balanced international goal.

He also said everyone should respect sovereignty of nations, rule of law and peaceful resolutions of differences and disputes.

PM said, "We supported each other in fight against foreign rule. We can do it again in this century to create a new world order.
