DNCC announces 10pc holding tax rebate for rooftop gardening

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam announced that the city corporation would provide 10 percent holding tax rebate for the city dwellers if they plant rooftop gardening at their houses.

However, for transparency and accountability, a committee will be formed consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Ministry of Agriculture, Civil Society, Urban Planners, and environmental organisations, he stated.

The announcement came on Tuesday at an inaugural programme of planting 0.1million saplings in the capital.

This concession will be given on basis of the recommendation of the committee, the mayor also said, adding that he was considering giving part of the house tax rebate to the houses or establishments where rain water will be harvested.

Regarding the combing operation to be held from September 01 to increase revenue collection, the mayor said, “The campaign will be launched to hike revenue collection in the same way we have prevented dengue.”

There is no alternative to planting trees to save the capital and future generations. The trees will be planted at the vicinity of every neighbourhood, clubs, schools and colleges. If each of us take care of five trees, a 'revolution' will take place in the city, Mr Islam insisted.
