Unit-2 of Payra Power Plant starts test run

The second unit of the country’s largest coal-fired power plant has started electricity generation on trial basis, a top official said.

Initially, the unit-2 with 660MW capacity is now generating 100MW of electricity which will increase gradually.

The 660MW coal-fired power plant unit of Payra has faced trouble amid Covid-19 as most of the local and 35 percent of foreign officials left the site to celebrate the Chinese New Year and they started to return in late June.

The plant was scheduled to complete all tasks required for commercial operation on June, 2020.

During pandemic, the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) issued a notice to the power division to consider the indefinite delay of the power plant.

Despite the delay of the unit-2, the company’s unit-1 is operational producing electricity with capacity 660MW.
