Probe body formed over Narayanganj mosque AC blast


Narayanganj district administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the blast in a mosque in Fatullah which has claimed 12 lives so far.

The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within five working days.

Confirming the news, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin said that the committee will be led by district magistrate Khadiza Tahera Boby.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the hospital authorities to ensure the best treatment of the injured.

Meanwhile, DC office has announced that it would give Tk 20,000 to the family of each dead for burial and Tk 10,000 for treatment of each victim.

Twelve people were killed in a mysterious blast in a mosque in Fatullah of Narayanganj on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Rashed, 30, Rifat,18, Mostafa Kamal, 34, Zubair, 18, Sabbir, 21, Kuddus Bepari, 72 Delwar Hossain, 48, Zunayed, 17, Humayun Kabir, 70, Ibrahim,43 and Jamal, 40.

Earlier, seven-year-old Jewel died at the hospital.

Some 40 people suffered burn injuries as all the air conditioners of the mosque exploded during Esha prayers in Fatullah, Narayanganj on Friday night. One of the injured died at night.

Locals said the incident took place around 8:45 pm at Baitus Salam Mosque when the devotees had just finished their prayers. An air conditioner went off and sparked a fire inside the mosque. Later, the remaining six ACs exploded there, leaving the 40 devotees injured.
