‘Chilahati-Haldibari railway line to start operation in DEC 16’

Railway communication between Dhaka and Shiliguri is all set to be kicked off on December 16 through Chilahati-Haldibari railway line.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to inaugurate the railway line marking the 50th year of our Independence.

If the corona situation does not improve, the inauguration ceremony will be held through videoconferencing.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon made the statements while visiting the junction (zero point) between Chilahati of Nilphamari district and Haldibari of India on Saturday noon.

The minister said, “The rail communication through this line was supposed to start long ago since today. But, that was not possible due to the grabbing of power by the anti-independent forces and haters of India. Both the governments of the countries took the initiative again after Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina comes to power. The dream will come true within several days.”

The minister also pledged to support the dispossessed as several hundreds of people from evicted 78 families urged for financial support to him.
