DMTCL starts hiring staff for metro-rail project

The metro rail company has finally started the process of recruiting its workforce, paving the way to hire dedicated personnel for implementing, managing and operating the city's first mass transit system.

Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), a cent percent government-owned company, invited applications from the resident nationals for 17 posts, out of over 1,914, through its website on Tuesday.

Sources said with this, the company has started fulfilling the longstanding demand of the project's Japanese financier, which has been pressing for starting the recruitment since 2015.

According to the consultant's planning, recruitment was necessary in phases from then with the target of completing it by 2017 for hiring a pool of dedicated staff members, capable of planning, implementing, managing and operating the highly technical system before its launching.

DMTCL is now implementing the first part of the 20.1-km mass rapid transit line-6 (MRT-6) from Uttara 3rd phase to Motijheel Shapla Chattar. It will also implement two more transit lines on the city's two other corridors, which are now at feasibility and design stages.

Officials said in the first stage, 85 professionals will be recruited for DMTCL's different departments. Applications have been invited for hiring seventeen people for the company's operation and maintenance department.

DMTCL will have rolling stock, signal and telecommunication, electrical, permanent way and civil, administration and finance departments, among others.

DMTCL board approved an organogram of 1,914 people in December after scrutinizing the proposal of its institution development consultant.

According to the approved organogram, the headquarter will have 133 own staff and 68 from outsourcing. Another 884 staff will also be employed for operation and maintenance work, and the rest from outsourcing.

DMTCL was formed in 2015 as per the recommendation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It is responsible for planning, implementing, operating and managing the city's all metro rails being planned on five corridors under a 20-year revised strategic transport plan (RSTP).
