The visiting Myanmar Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye on Wednesday assured the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to take them back to Myanmar within a short span of time.

"You will be repatriated in Myanmar soon since the government of Myanmar has taken decision to provide various facilities to you," he told the Rohingya people while visiting the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia under Cox's Bazar district.

During the visit, the Rohingya people told the minister that prior to beginning of the repatriation process, the Myanmar government has to ensure their safe, secured and dignified return by ensuring their rights.

Later, talking to journalists, the Union Minister said the Rohingyas would be repatriated soon to Myanmar following recommendations of the committee formed by Myanmar government in this regard.

During his two and a half hour stay in Kutupalong refugee camp, he talked to 30 Rohingya people, government officials, representatives of NGOs, UN and other international bodies engaged in providing humanitarian assistance to the ill-fated Rohingyas and their repatriation process at UNHCR's temporary office.

The Myanmar minister, who is leading a seven-member delegation during his visit, arrived at the camp at around 11am and stayed there till 1.30 pm. Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam received him on his arrival at the camp.

Earlier, Myanmar's Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Minister Win Myat Aye arrived in Dhaka yesterday morning on a two-day visit to discuss high government officials about the current state of the repatriation process.

The Myanmar's minister is scheduled to meet Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal during his visit.

The UN counted some 700,000 Rohingyas to have taken refuge in Bangladesh since Myanmar army launched a crackdown on their ethnic minority community on August 25 last year, which it described as a textbook example of ethnic cleansing.
