Bus-truck owners, workers call indefinite strike from Friday

Bus-truck owners and workers have called an indefinite strike, following a hike in diesel prices by the government, across the country.

Although no formal declaration was made, representatives of the sector said the strike will start from 6:00 am on Friday.

Since the announcement of new fuel prices, several bus-truck owners’ organisations have had meetings, sources said.

In the meetings, they decided to go on indefinite strike until they are allowed to increase their service fares.

Earlier on Wednesday, the government decided to increase the price of diesel and kerosene by Tk 15, which came into effect from Thursday.

The government raised the prices of diesel and kerosene due to the rising prices of oil in the international market.

However, the prices of other petroleum products remained unchanged.
