Metro rail test runs from Uttara to Agargaon

Bangladesh's first overhead metro-train ran a performance test on viaduct from Uttara to Agargaon station at 11:00 am on Sunday.

Travelling at a speed of 100 km per hour towards Mirpur, the train reached Agargaon. It waited for 20 minutes at the station before going back to Uttara.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Managing Director MAN Siddique said they would continue the test a few more days.

He hoped that the much-awaited metro train service will be opened from Uttara to Agargaon by December next year.

The train will carry passengers from 16 December 2022 with 10 sets of metro rail.

"We have already seven sets of trains, we will get the rest running soon," he said.

Earlier, the metro train went for a performance test on viaduct from Uttara to Pallabi station on August 29 last and from Uttara to Mirpur 10 on November 29.

The overall progress of construction work of 21.26-kilometer-long elevated metro rail service from Uttara to Motijheel-Kamalapur Railway stands at 72.99 per cent now, while 89.88 per cent civil work between Uttara and Agargaon has been done.

"At present, 11.73-kilometer viaduct, station column, and other related works of metro rail between Uttara and Agargaon have been completed," MAN Siddique said on December 5.
