Much-awaited Cox’s Bazar bound train to be available in June


The dream train service to be available in Cox’s Bazar in the June as 90 percent work of the project has already been completed.

Railway service from Dohazari in Chattogram to Ramu in Cox’s Bazar will usher in a new era of the country’s communications sector.

Railway station in Cox’s Bazar built in state-of-the-art technology is expected to attract visitors, sources concerned said.

A picture of the railway station posted on a Facebook page named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already sparked a sensation.

Caption of the photo of the station reads “It is Cox’s Bazar railway station in Bangladesh, not Europe, America.”

Md Ahmed Sufi, project manager construction firm Max Group, said remaining 10 percent work is likely to be finished by June.

On April 3, 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid foundation stone for the construction of meter gauge railways from Dohazari-Ramu-Cox’s Bazar and Ramu-Ghumdhum.

According to sources, there will be nine stations in 128-km rail route located at Satkania, Lohagara, Chakaria, Dulahazara, Eidgaon, Ramu, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ukhia and Ghumdhum. It will feature modern computer-based interlock signals and digital telecommunication systems.

Once complete, it will connect with the Trans-Asian Railway Corridor, sources added.
