Ministers, state ministers, and secretaries will be entitled to receive Tk75,000 to buy cellular phones, confirmed Cabinet Secretary Md Shafiul Alam.

He reported this decision at a press briefing held after the cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.

Previously, a draft was approved in a cabinet meeting presided by the prime minister at the prime minister's office on Monday morning.

According to the cabinet secretary, in the cabinet meeting, a 2018 draft of the policy for using government telephones, cellular phones, fax, and internet was approved.

According to the new policy, ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers, and secretaries will receive Tk75,000 to buy an android phone.

"In the past, they would get only Tk15,000 to buy a mobile set," said the cabinet secretary. "But to buy a quality android phone, you need at least Tk75,000."

He added that no limit will be placed on their mobile phone bills either.

The cabinet secretary further said: "Joint secretaries and additional secretaries - those who are not entitled to get a mobile phone at all times - will get Tk1,500 for paying their mobile phone bills. They used to get Tk600 before.”

"The cabinet has issued two decrees regarding the implementation of the policy," he said. "Firstly, the Supreme Court justices have been included in the draft approved in the cabinet meeting.

Secondly, a proposal was made to include roaming facilities for the chief of protocol from the Foreign Ministry in the policy."
