Another case filed against Dr Yunus, Court issues summons


A Dhaka court summoned Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus in a case filed against him for allegedly depriving employees of profit and laundering the money abroad.

Grameen Telecom Chairman Yunus along with others allegedly embezzled fund of the employees.

A number of 18 employees of the Grameen Telecom Ltd filed a case with the Labour Court in Dhaka against Prof Yunus on Monday.

It is the second case against Muhammad Yunus by the workers of the company over embezzlement of labours’ share of profit.

Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus will have to reply to the court clarifying his position within October 16.

Earlier, on August 22, labour court started testimony in the first case filed against him for violating labour laws.

Dhaka Third Labour Tribunal comprising Judge Begum Sheikh Marina Sultana recorded statements of labour lnspector Tariqul Islam during testimony.

Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) Inspector Arifuzzaman filed the case against Dr Yunus and three others on September 9, 2021, and the court had summoned the four to appear before it by October 12 of that year.

The three other accused are Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Md Ashraful Hasan, director Nurzahan Begum and director Md Shahjahan.

The accused persons are facing charges of not submitting profit of Sramik Kalyan Foundation, regularising  job and doing irregularities over holidays.
