Double murder in Sonaimuri A nationwide mourning meeting

"Where does the trial end?"

On March 14, 2016, two members of Hezbut Tawheed were hacked to death, their eyes gouged out, slaughtered, and burned to death in Noakhali's Sonaimuri upazila. Hezbut Tawheed has held mourning and protest meetings across the country as the trial process for the killers has not started even after 8 years since the incident.

As part of the central program, the Dhaka Metropolitan Branch of Hezbut Tawheed organized a mourning and protest meeting in Uttara in the capital on Thursday (March 14, 2024) with the slogan, 'The killers of the two martyrs are still roaming around; the trial process of the killers should be started quickly'.

Hezbut Tawheed's supreme leader, Emam Hossain Mohammad Selim, was present as the chief guest. Speaking as the chief guest, he said that the trial of the massacre of religious fanatics in Noakhali's Sonaimuri has not started even after eight years, which is very regrettable. The trial of such a brutal murder cannot be pending like this. The families of Shaheed Khokon and Shaheed Rubel have been waiting for eight years after losing their relatives. In the name of justice, farce and procrastination are going on, which is the name of impunity. Many of the accused are still out of reach, roaming freely. In the absence of justice, the group identified as religious businessmen who planned and instigated the incident is still trying to heat up the situation by holding waz mahfils around the area. They are plotting another heinous act. It has become very urgent to bring these propagandists and conspirators of the attack under the law quickly and face justice. If legal action is not taken against them now, they can create any kind of mayhem. In that case, not only Hezbut Tawhid will be harmed, society will be damaged, and the state will be damaged. He demanded that not a single life be lost by religious extremists and that the trial of the killers of Ibrahim Rubel and Solaiman Khokon be started quickly.

At the end, Doa was offered, seeking the eternal peace of the departed souls of Solaiman Khokon and Ibrahim Rubel. Protest meetings were also held in Motijheel, Jatrabari, Ashulia, Gazipur, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Barisal, Patuakhali, Shariatpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Jamalpur, Sherpur, and Lalmonirhat.

It is to be noted that on this day in history, a black chapter of atrocities was written on the soil of Bangladesh. An extremist religious business group carried out a terrorist attack by spreading false propaganda about the mosque being built by Hezbut Tawheed. They demolished the mosque. Hezbut Tawheed set fire to the house of the honorable imam and looted it. Two members of Hezbut Tawheed, who came to build the mosque, were slaughtered and killed in a diabolical manner and set on fire to their bodies. Today is that black day. On that day, two members of Hezbut Tawheed were martyred while building a mosque in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. However, the conspirators did not succeed. There is now a large, four-story Jame Masjid complex. In response to their destruction, Hezbut Tawhid has done construction and development. The neglected Porkara village is now going to take the form of a smart village. The villagers, who are lagging behind in various aspects including food, education, health, and employment generation by undertaking 42 development projects, are now enjoying services equivalent to those of the cities.
