Lightning strikes claim 8 lives in various districts


A total of eight people have lost their lives due to lightning strikes in different districts. The fatalities occurred between morning and evening on Monday.

Netrakona

During rice harvesting in Haor of Atpara upazila, Delwar Mia, a farmer aged 35, lost his life due to lightning strike.

The incident took place in the morning at Swaramushia village of the upazila. He was the son of Firoz Mia of the same village.

Sherpur

In Jajira and Bhedarganj upazilas of Sherpur, two women lost their lives due to lightning strikes.

The deceased are: Ameena Begum (26) from Paainpaara in the Eastern Naodoba union of Jajira upazila and Kulsu Begum (38) from Charshensash union of Sakhipur Police Station in  Bhedarganj upazila.

They were struck by lightning during the afternoon showers.

Madaripur

Sanjib Ballobh and Digon Vaidya were struck by lightning while bathing in the Arial Khan River in Madaripur. Sanjib (35) died on the spot, and Digon (40) sustained injuries and was admitted to the hospital.

The incident occurred around 3 pm in the Puran Bazar area of Madaripur Sadar upazila. Sanjib was the son of Nagen Ballobh of Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj.

Faridpur

Murad Malik, a farmer aged 53, died due to a lightning strike while returning home after fishing in Madhukhali, Faridpur.

On Monday evening at around 5 pm, Kamrul Sheikh, another farmer, was injured. He has been admitted to the hospital.

The incident took place at Kapashatia in Kamaldiya union of Hatia upazila.

Hatiyara Union Parishad Chairman Deb Dulal Biswas confirmed the incident. However, he could not provide the identities of the deceased.
