418 BGB platoons deployed ahead of upazila polls

A total of 418 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order during the first phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad elections to be held on Wednesday.

The BGB personnel will work as a mobile and striking force, aiming to cooperate with the civil administration in the election areas until 10 May," said Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB.

Besides, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) have deployed nearly 1.60 lakh security personnel to ensure security during the polls.

According to the Election Commission, the first phase of the Upazila Parishad elections will be held in 10,605 polling stations across 141 upazilas in 59 districts nationwide.
