Govt not getting necessary support from different levels of administration
Acknowledging that there is stagnation in the administration, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam said that the government is not getting the necessary support from different levels of the administration.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday, Nahid said, "We will not deny that we are getting non-cooperation from different levels of the administration."
“We are noticing that there is stagnation in the administration. We are facing various problems from different directions. New problems are coming every day, and we are facing them," he said.
Nahid said, "We are reorganising the administration. We hope that the deadlock in the administration will be over at the earliest. We hope that there is no chance of a secretariat coup."
He said that a committee has been formed to review the projects in which there were allegations of irregularities and corruption.
“The previous committees at various departments under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are being abolished, and new committees are being formed. Contractual appointments have been cancelled. Legal action will be taken against those who are found to be corrupt," Nahid said.
Memorial meeting for martyrs of the student movement postponed
Talking to reporters, Nahid said that the memorial ceremony, scheduled for Saturday to honour those killed during the student movement, has been postponed.
He mentioned that the event is being postponed because a complete list of the martyrs from the mass uprising is not yet available.
A new date for the memorial will be announced later, said Nahid.
However, on another note, Nahid said that the government is going to form a media reform commission so that the media can work independently.
A commission will be made to reform the media. We want to shape the media by creating an outline of how independent media can run in Bangladesh.
While talking to reporters, he also said that the government has blocked a total of 1,667 porn websites and 560 gambling websites in the last one month.
