EC gets new secretary

The interim government has appointed Akhter Ahmed as the senior secretary of the Election Commission on a contractual basis.

A gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration in this regard on Thursday.

Akhter Ahmed was appointed as per Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, read the notification.

His two-year tenure will come into effect from the date of joining which is conditional upon his resignation from any other professional affiliations or organisations, including government, semi-government, and private, the ministry said.

Other conditions of the appointment will be finalised through agreement, it said, adding that the order was issued on published interest.

On Tuesday, the government removed EC secretary Shafiul Azim from his post and made an officer on special duty (OSD).
