CID nabs 3 in Dhaka over human trafficking

Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested three members of a human trafficking gang, including the owner of a travel agency, who reportedly embezzled crores of Taka by luring people to Kyrgyzstan with promises of employment.

The arrestees are – Ibrahim Mallik Nahid, 35; Sharmin Hossain alias Laboni, 36; and Arifur Rahman alias Sadi, 24.

They were arrested from Dhaka’s Paltan area on Monday, according to a CID press release issued Tuesday.

CID states that the arrestees are members of a human trafficking ring. Ibrahim is the head of this racket and also the proprietor of Jannat Trade International.

The company took Tk 5.12 lakh from three people after promising jobs with good salary and benefits in Kyrgyzstan. Jannat Trade International gave the three visas and plane tickets to Kyrgyzstan.

On April 7, the trio went to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to go to Kyrgyzstan. The immigration police did not find any of their visa information online. Their journey was postponed as a result.

Later they realised that they had been defrauded.

Over the incident, a case has been filed under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act in the capital’s Paltan police station. The CID arrested three people, including Ibrahim, in this case.
