Proposal to withdraw import duty on 110 US products

Bangladesh has taken initiatives to gradually reduce import duty rates and prepare for trade dialogue with the United States.

As part of this, Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has announced the complete withdrawal of import duties on 110 products.

On Monday (June 2) at 3:00 PM, the Economic Adviser made this proposal while presenting the budget speech for the fiscal year 2025–26 before the nation.

As there is no elected government and the national parliament is not functional, the budget is not being presented in Parliament this time. The Economic Adviser’s budget speech is being broadcast on Bangladesh Television.

In the upcoming budget proposal, Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said: “As part of gradually reducing import duty rates and preparing for trade dialogue with the United States, I propose the complete withdrawal of import duty on 110 products, reduction of import duty on 65 products, complete withdrawal of supplementary duty on 9 products, and reduction of supplementary duty on 442 products.”

“As part of the gradual withdrawal of the currently enforced minimum and tariff values, I propose the withdrawal of all existing tariff values. At the same time, I propose withdrawal of minimum customs value on 84 products and increase in minimum customs value on 23 products to make customs valuation more rational.”
