Collection falls short of targetsRevenue grows 21pc from July-August

Revenue collection in the first two months of the ongoing fiscal year has increased by 20.93 percent, with the National Board of Revenue collecting a total of Tk 544 billion.

The NBR, however, fell short of its revenue target by approximately Tk 65.7 billion for July and August.

According to the updated data released on Sunday, the target for these two months was Tk 612 billion. In the same period of the financial year 2024-25, the total revenue stood at Tk 455.16 billion.

Political unrest during the first two months of the previous fiscal year hurt both the law and order situation and revenue collection.

For August, revenue growth was reported at 17.69 percent, with Tk 271.74 billion collected. The VAT sector led the way, contributing significantly to this growth with a 33.13 percent increase.

Over the two months, Tk 224.37 billion was raised from VAT alone, compared with Tk 168.54 billion during the same period last year. This sector was the only one to meet its target, with a goal of Tk 214.09 billion.

Revenue from the customs sector stood at Tk 172.48 billion, growing by 6.61 percent. However, it fell short of the target of Tk 202.11 billion. Income tax collection increased by 23.09 percent, with Tk 147.38 billion collected, against a target of Tk 193.79 billion.

For FY2026, the NBR aims to collect Tk 4.99 trillion in revenue as part of the Tk 7.9 trillion national budget.
