Bangladesh to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on June 7

The moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Zilhajj, 1446 Hijri, has been sighted in Bangladesh. As a result, the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be observed across the country on June 7, in a spirit of religious solemnity and festive celebration.

The announcement came on Wednesday evening following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital.

The decision was made after reviewing reports from district administrations, the Meteorological Department, and field offices of the Islamic Foundation, confirming the moon sighting. Accordingly, the month of Zilhajj will begin on Thursday.

Accordingly, the holy Hajj day (Day of Arafat) will be observed on June 6, and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated across the country the following day on June 7.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs informed that dedicated telephone and fax lines were kept open to receive moon sighting information. Reports from various parts of the country confirmed the sighting, enabling a prompt decision.

Notably, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Indonesia also reported moon sightings on Wednesday. In those countries, the day of Arafat will be observed on June 5, and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on June 6.
