Police identify motorcycle used in Hadi attack, owner detained

Police have identified the motorcycle used in the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, Inqilab Mancha convener and prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8, and detained its owner Abdul Hannan from Mohammadpur.

Police confirmed the information in a text message on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, digital investigative news outlet The Descent has claimed to have identified the motorcycle rider who allegedly carried the prime suspect, Faisal Karim Masud, during the shooting.

According to the report, the rider has been identified as Alamgir Hossain, whose Facebook profile name is Mohammad Alamgir Sheikh.

The Descent claimed that Alamgir frequently used the geotag of ‘Sunibir Housing’ in Adabar, Mohammadpur, in his social media posts.

The Descent further claimed that comparative analysis of photographs posted on Alamgir’s Facebook profile with images taken during Hadi’s campaign activities on 5 and 12 December helped confirm his identity. The outlet also reported that Alamgir was present at Hadi’s election campaign near the Shilpakala Academy on 5 December.

Separately, investigative journalist Zulkarnain Saer alleged that prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud and his associate, motorcycle rider Alamgir Hossain, crossed the border into India on the evening of 12 December.

He further claimed that the two suspects were being assisted in India by Md Masudur Rahman Biplob, personal assistant to Awami League leader Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and that they are currently staying there under his supervision.

Police authorities have not yet officially commented on these allegations, while investigations into the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi remain ongoing.
