Light rain likely in Dhaka today, heat to ease slightly


Light rain is likely in Dhaka and its surrounding areas on Saturday, while the sky may remain partly to temporarily cloudy, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The day temperature may drop slightly, offering some relief from the recent heat.

The forecast, issued by the BMD’s storm warning centre at 7:00am for the next six hours, said the sky over the capital and nearby regions will remain partly to temporarily cloudy, with chances of light rainfall. Winds from the south or south-east may blow at a speed of 10 to 15 km per hour, it added.

According to BMD data, the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 27.5°C at 6:00am with 92% humidity. The capital’s highest temperature on Friday was 34.5°C, while today’s minimum was 27.2°C. No rainfall was recorded in Dhaka in the last 24 hours.

The sun will set at 5:19 pm today and rise at 6:05am tomorrow, the forecast said.

Meanwhile, the national forecast issued on Friday night stated that by 6:00pm today, light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions; at several places in Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions; and at a few places in Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions, the Met Office added.

During this period, the day temperature across the country may fall by 1–2°C, while the night temperature may also drop slightly.
