Nine bank accounts of journo Subhash Singh Roy frozen

A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the freezing of nine bank accounts with a total balance of Tk42.73 lakh belonging to journalist and UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd Director Subhash Singh Roy, his wife and former lawmaker Mamata Hena Lovely, and their associated entities.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC's petition states that an inquiry is underway against Subhash Singh Roy over allegations of amassing wealth illegally, depositing the money in bank accounts under his and his associates’ names, and transferring funds abroad.

The accused is attempting to withdraw or transfer funds from these accounts. The freezing order is necessary, as transferring the money before the investigation concludes could hinder the inquiry.

Information has been found that Subhash Singha Roy and his wife Mamata Hena Lovely carried out transactions involving crores of taka through their bank accounts.

Based on information obtained from various sources, it has been learned that the accused is attempting to transfer or withdraw the funds kept in these accounts.

"Therefore, in the interest of a proper inquiry, the accounts should be frozen immediately," the plea added.

The court on October 20, 2025, imposed a travel ban on the couple.
