Heavy Rain After Heatwave; Flood Fears Rise

While a long-standing heatwave is finally receding, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall starting Monday, April 27, 2026.

This shift in weather has triggered concerns about flash floods in the Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, particularly in districts like Sunamganj and Netrokona.

Due to heavy downpours in the upstream Meghalaya region, water levels in major rivers are expected to cross danger marks rapidly.

Consequently, authorities have urged farmers in the Haor regions to harvest their ripened paddy immediately to avoid potential crop losses from the looming deluge.
