Election fever is blowing across the country92pc people ready to vote, young people prefer Jamaat and AL voters lean towards BNP


The election campaign is blowing across the country with the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. There is a great interest in voting among the voters.

A recent survey has shown that 91.7 percent of the country's voters want to exercise their voting rights in the next election. Especially a large portion of the young people who will vote for the first time, prefer 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami'. On the other hand, almost half of the regular voters of the Awami League have expressed their interest in voting for 'BNP' this time.

These data were presented in a survey report titled 'Uncovering the Public Pulse', jointly conducted by the Communication and Research Foundation (CRF) and Bangladesh Election and Public Opinion Studies (BEPOS) at the National Press Club on Wednesday (February 4).

Zakaria Palash, CRF's Strategic Coordinator and Researcher, presented the survey results.

The choice of young and new voters

According to the survey, Jamaat-e-Islami is the most popular party among first-time voters since 2008. About 37.4 percent of young voters said they would vote for Jamaat. In contrast, 27 percent of young voters prefer BNP and 17 percent prefer NCP. The remaining 18.6 percent of voters are either undecided or support other parties.

Position of Awami League voters

A survey was also conducted to find out which way the votes of supporters of the currently banned Awami League party would go. It showed that 48.2 percent of regular Awami League voters want to vote for BNP this time, 29.9 percent for Jamaat and 6.5 percent for NCP.

Voting criteria: Corruption and prices

67.3 percent of voters who participated in the survey said they would give the candidate's 'stand against corruption' the most importance when voting. In addition, 63.4 percent of voters will vote keeping in mind the ability to control prices and 55.4 percent of voters will vote keeping in mind the issue of development. 35.9 percent of voters will give importance to religious issues. 30.4 percent of voters said they would vote based on the party symbol or brand and 30.2 percent said they would vote based on the candidate's personal qualifications.

Survey method

The survey was conducted on 11,038 voters in two phases from November 20 to December 31, 2025. This information was collected using a stratified random sampling method based on the opinions of people from different regions of the country.

Expert opinion

The event was attended by Dr. M. Niaz Asadullah, Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Reading, UK and Dr. Md. Sahabul Haque, Professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

Professor Niaz Asadullah said, “Voters are now giving more importance to good governance, freedom from corruption and economic stability than identity-based politics. The people’s strong thirst for accountable governance is reflected in this survey.”

The CRF said that analyzing the survey results, it is clear that the common people of the country are waiting for an effective and transparent leadership that can ensure their economic and social security
