13 BNP activists detained over alleged attempt to capture polling stations in Ashulia
Thirteen leaders and activists of the BNP were detained by the army in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka over allegations of attempting to seize control of two polling stations. Later, They were handed over to Ashulia Police Station.
Around 12:30 am on Thursday (12 February), an army patrol team conducted an operation at the Noyanagar New Model School and College polling centre in Ward No. 5 of Dhamsona Union, detaining nine individuals.
The detainees were identified as Abdur Rahman (42), son of Shamsul Haque of Madhupur area; Md Shahjahan Bepari (64), son of Bashir Uddin Bepari; Mohammad Sarwar (52), son of Yakub Ali; Md Julhas Uddin (24), son of Shahjahan Bepari; Md Suman (23), son of Babul Hossain; Md Sujon (20), son of Ahmad Ali; Md Shahinur Islam (30), son of Md Taizul Islam; Md Suman (36), son of Akhter Hossain; and Mohammad Nurul Islam (35), son of Danej Ali Sheikh of Gopipara area.
In a separate operation conducted at the same time, four more individuals were detained from Nalam polling centre in Dhamsona Union's 9 no. Ward.
They were identified as Md Montu Mia (35), son of Yusuf Ali of Nalam Bagbari; Md Jewel Mia (36), son of Md Ali Hossain of Nalam Panpara; Kabir Hossain (37), son of Lokman Hossain of the same area; and Rakib Hossain (39), son of Majid Bepari.
Law enforcement agencies said all the detainees are supporters of BNP-nominated candidate Dr Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu. An army team detained 13 individuals overnight and handed them over to the police.
Duty Officer of Ashulia Police Station, SI Saimon Sheikh said this while speaking with reporters in this matter at the Police station premises.
He also said that The detainees are currently in police custody. Necessary legal action will be taken after verification, in accordance with the decision of the higher authorities.
