Bus fare increased by 11 paisa per kilometer
The government has decided to increase the fares for long-distance and inter-district buses and minibuses by 11 paisa per kilometer.
Following a meeting with transport owners and workers at the Secretariat on Thursday (April 23), Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced the decision. The key updates are as follows:
-
Metropolitan Areas (Dhaka & Chattogram): The fare has increased from 2.42 BDT to 2.53 BDT per kilometer.
-
Long-Distance Routes: The fare has risen from 2.12 BDT to 2.23 BDT per kilometer.
The Minister confirmed that the new rates take effect today and apply strictly to diesel-powered buses. Fares for CNG-powered vehicles remain unchanged. He also noted that if fuel prices decrease in the future, bus fares will be adjusted accordingly. Currently, there is no decision to increase fares for rail or water transport.
This hike follows the government's April 18 announcement to increase fuel prices, where diesel rose by 15 BDT, octane by 20 BDT, and petrol by 19 BDT per liter.
