Ashik Chowdhury to wear Hadi’s portrait helmet in world record attempt


On 16 December, Victory Day, 54 paratroopers carrying the national flag of Bangladesh are set to attempt a world record, with one of the participants wearing a helmet painted with the portrait of Sharif Osman Hadi.

Among the 54 paratroopers; Ashik Chowdhury is the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

He will take part in the jump wearing a helmet bearing the image of Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency.

The information was disclosed on Sunday by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

In a statement, the press wing said: “On December 16, Victory Day, 54 paratroopers will attempt to set a world record carrying the national flag of Bangladesh. One of them, Ashik Chowdhury, will jump wearing a helmet painted with the portrait of Osman Hadi. On this Victory Day, we call upon everyone to offer prayers for the swift recovery of Osman Hadi, a vanguard of independence and sovereignty.”

As part of Victory Day celebrations, the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force will conduct separate fly-past rehearsals at the old Tejgaon Airport in Dhaka from 11:00am on December 16. A special Victory Day band show will also be held.

Later, from 11:40am, “Team Bangladesh”, comprising 54 paratroopers, will perform a parachuting display while holding the national flag to mark 54 years of independence. The event will be open to the public.

Osman Hadi was shot in Dhaka on Friday afternoon (December 12) while campaigning as a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 seat. He has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since that night.
