TCB to start onion selling soon

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling onion at affordable prices in the open market soon for keeping the supply and price of onion normal.

The activities will be continued until new stocks of onion come at the market.

The decision was taken at a taskforce committee meeting of the Commerce Ministry at the ministry conference room in the city on Sunday, said a press release.

Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin presided over the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the stock, supply and price situation of essential commodities. Onion stocks, imports and supplies and price situation were also discussed at the meeting.

The meeting informed that the country has adequate onion stocks.

“There is no reason for onion crisis or price rise. The government will take strict action as per the law if any attempt is made to increase the price of onion through illegal stockpiling or artificial crisis. The monitoring teams of the ministry and the National Consumers Rights Protection Department have further strengthened market monitoring,” he added.

Additional Secretary (Export) of the Commerce Ministry Md Obaidul Azam, among others, was present on the occasion.
