A 10.5-tonne consignment of onions imported by the City Group has arrived from Turkey at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today to mitigate the existing crisis of onion.

"A cargo flight carrying the onions arrived by a flight of Turkish Airlines on Tuesday morning," said Biswajit Saha, executive director of City Group.

On November 20, 82 tonnes of onions arrived from Karachi at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Bangladesh will get a consignment of 50,000 tonnes of onions by air-cargo and another 12,000 tonnes by sea, the Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi announced earlier.

The Bangladesh government and traders had made plans to import onions from Egypt, Turkey and the Netherlands after India banned onion exports and Myanmar increased prices.
