NEWS DESK

Twenty-one doctors and 12 nurses among 42 staff members of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) have been sent on quarantine as they came in contact with a Covid-19 patient.

Among the doctors, 15 are interns while the other staff include ayas and cleaning workers.

The six doctors were sent to the Tourist Motel on institutional quarantine while the rest on institutional and home-quarantine.

RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous said those who were sent on quarantine were working at the emergency department and wards 39 and 42 of the hospital.

Their samples will be collected within two days, he said, adding that they put ward 42 under lockdown.

A patient named Abdus Sobhan, 80, was admitted to the hospital on April 17.

He was first treated at ward 42 and then at ward 39 and finally at the coronavirus ward.

Doctors took his sample on Monday and found him positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.

So far, eight people have tested positive for coronavirus in the district.
