BD coronavirus cases rise to 7,103, deaths reach 163

Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh reached 7,103 on Wednesday, a rise of 641 from the previous day, while related deaths increased by eight to 163, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This is the biggest spike in daily new cases of the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh since the country reported first cases on March 8 last.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana presented the latest figures while briefing the media live on the daily health bulletin at 2:30pm.

The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 4,968 samples in the past 24 hours, she said.

Of the newly deceased, six were male and two female, Prof Nasima mentioned.

Also, 11 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 150.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 218,179 as of Wednesday noon.

It has so far infected 3,146,982 people around the world, according to Worldometer - a website that provides real-time updates.

Of them, 1,966,943 are currently being treated and 56,976 of them are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 961,860 people have recovered
