Gonoshasthaya set to submit its kit to BSMMU on Wednesday

Gonoshasthaya Kendra is set to submit its Covid-19 test kits on Wednesday to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital for conducting comparative effectiveness tests.

Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder and trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, confirmed it to media on Tuesday.

"We received a letter at noon in which BSMMU authorities asked us to submit our kits and sought the kits' test conducting charge", he said.

"We will submit kits to the BSMMU at 11am after paying Tk5 lakh in testing charge through the bank", Dr Zafrullah also said.

Earlier, the BSMMU formed a six-member committee to conduct the performance study of the Covid-19 rapid testing kits developed by Gonoshasthaya.

The development has come following a press conference by the Gonoshasthaya founder on May 11.

In that programme, Dr Zafrullah wanted interim approval to conduct tests for the novel coronavirus using the kits his organisation had developed until the government provided its final performance study certificate.

He also urged the government to take combined initiatives to combat the virus.

Earlier, the Directorate General of Drug Administration gave Gonoshasthaya the permission to get its testing kits checked either at BSMMU, or the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research.

On March 17, Gonoshasthaya-RNA Biotech, a sister concern of Gonoshasthaya, declared that it had developed a method named Gonoshasthaya Rapid Dot Blot.
