COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 41 more deaths, 1,822 new cases


Bangladesh reported 41 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours ending at 8am Thursday, which is the lowest in 39 days. 

On March 28 last year, another 35 people were killed in a single day, after which the number of daily fatalities continued to rise.

With today's figures, the total Covid-19 death count stands at 11,796  in the country and the fatality rate was 1.53 % on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, 1,822 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the case count to 7,69,160.

However, the positivity rate remained below 9% for the fourth straight day on Thursday, with a recorded 8.44% positivity rate. 

In the meantime, the country tested 21,585 samples in its 428 labs on Thursday. 

Bangladesh saw its highest-ever 112 deaths from Covid-19 on 19 April and the highest 7,626 cases on 7 April.

Among the latest day's victims, 22 were men, and 19 were women. Of the victims, 40 died in different hospitals across the country while one died at home. 

Moreover, 20 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 14 from Chattogram, two each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet, and one from Khulna division. 

Also, 3,698 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 91.29% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 8,566 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,230 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

A day after the government said a third wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) was inevitable in India, the country recorded 412,262 fresh cases and 3,980 new deaths due to the virus. With this, India's total infection tally went up to 21,077,410 and its death toll was pushed to 230,168, according to the Union health ministry dashboard.

As of Thursday, 3,257,615 people globally died of Covid-19 and 155,887,827 were infected so far, according to the data provided by Worldometer.
