COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 38 more deaths, 1,676 new cases


Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in bordering districts, the country recorded 38 more single-day deaths and 1,676 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

With these additions, the death toll increased to 12,839 and the infection tally reached 8,10,990. 

Meanwhile, the fatality rate was recorded at 1.58% and the positivity rate stood at 10.73% in the preceding 24 hours. 

Also, 15,613 samples were tested in 509 labs across the country. 

Among the latest day's victims, 25 were men, and 13 were women. Of the victims, 37 died in different hospitals across the country while one at home. 

Moreover, 12 of the deceased hailed from the Chattogram division, six from Khulna, five from Ranpur, four each from Dhaka and Rajshahi, three each from Mymensingh and Sylhet, and one from Barishal division.

Also, 1,897 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 92.64% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 9,256 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,583 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

India on Sunday recorded 114,460 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare. With this, the country's total infection tally reached 28,809,339 and its death toll rose to 346,759 after 2,677 people lost their lives due to the virus in 24 hours.

Covid-19 has claimed 3,737,187 lives worldwide and infected 173,750,602 people so far, according to Worldometer data.
