COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 261 deaths in 24hrs


As the deaths from Covid-19 keep rising recording over 200 plus daily deaths for the last two weeks, 261 more casualties were reported in 24 hours until Saturday 8am.

Today's death toll is the second highest as 264 deaths were reported the day before yesterday. 

Of the deceased, Dhaka division saw the highest ever 101 deaths since the pandemic hit the country last year.  

In the contrast to the surging deaths, health officials reported a decline in daily cases with 8,136 new infections were detected during the 24 hours period.

The number of daily cases reported today is the lowest in 15 days as 6,780 infections were reported on 24 July following the Eid vacation. 

The positivity rate further dropped to 25.65% as the country has been witnessing a steady decline in the rate for more than a week. 

Meanwhile, the death rate shot up to 1.67% in line with the growing deaths. 

With the latest additions, the death toll stands at 22,411 and the case tally climbed to 13,43,396 so far.

Apart from Dhaka, 62 people died in Chattogram division followed by 45 in Khulna, 16 in Mymensingh, 12 in Barishal, 10 in Rangpur, eight in Rajshahi, and seven died in Sylhet.

According to the health directorate, 152 of the total victims were male and 109 were female. 

Besides, 16,383 patients came round from the viral disease, pushing up the recovery rate to 88.49%. 

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
