Five officers including former DG of DPE summoned


The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has summoned five education officers including former director general of Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) for violating court order.

The other officers are deputy director of DPE Md Ramzan Ali, Gaibandha District Primary Education Officer Aminul Islam, Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Abdus Salam and Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Assistant Education Officer Masumul Islam.

They have been asked to present at the court on December 14 and explain reasons as to why they did not carry out the court order.

The virtual bench of three justices led by Senior Justice of the Appellate Division Mohammad Iman Ali passed the order on Monday.

Barrister ABM Alataf Hossain stood for the petitioner while lawyer Shafique Mahmud represented the state.

Mentionable, a candidate named Beauty Begum of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila stood first in the teachers’ recruitment test of government primary schools in 2008. Instead of appointing her, the DPE appointed another one Nazma Sultana who stood second in the test.

Later, Beauty Begum filed a case with Gaibandha Assistant Judge Court. The court gave verdict in favour of Beauty Begum so that she gets appointment.
