Birangana Roma Chowdhury passes away


Roma Chowdhury, the writer and Birangana of the Liberation War, died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital(CMCH) on Monday. She was 78.

Roma Chowdhrury, who had been suffering from old age complications breathed her last around 4.00 am, said her private assistant Alauddin Ahmed Khokon.

She had diabetes, high blood pressure and various other health complications.

She had been suffering from illness since she sustained fracture in her waist after she fell down at her residence in Boalkhali upazila of the district on December 24, 2017.

The writer had been undergoing treatment at the hospital’s freedom fighters’ cabin since March 25 last after vomiting blood.

Her body will be taken to the Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar at 11am for mass people for paying tribute. She will then be laid to rest at her ancestral home in Boalkhali.

Roma Chowdhury graduated from Dhaka University in 1961 with a degree in Bangla Literature.

On May 13, 1971,Roma Chowdhury fell prey to perverted Pakistani military forces at her residence.

The freedom fighter wrote 19 books, including ‘’71 Er Jononi’, ‘Ek Hazar Ek Din Japoner Poddo’ and ‘Bhab Boichitre Rabindranath’.
