Govt to recruit 2,000 doctors and 6,000 nurses

The Health Ministry has taken initiative to appoint 2,000 doctors and 6,000 nurses as per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Minister Zahid Maleque said today.

"We have prepared few hospitals for the treatments of the growing number of coronavirus patients. Meanwhile, many doctors and nurses have tested positive with the virus and many are in quarantine. In this circumstances, the premier has instructed us to appoint more doctors and nurses," the minister said during a virtual briefing today.

He also hoped that the appointments will change the current situation of health sector.

According to Bangladesh Doctors' Foundation, some 251 doctors are infected with the deadly virus so far in Bangladesh.

No separate coronavirus hospital for VIPs 

In a seperate briefing, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that the government has not designated any hospital to treat only the VIP coronavirus patients.

In a virtual briefing, the minister said, "We saw some media outlets published news saying we are designating a hospital for VIPs, but we did not make any such arrangement. All will get same treatment."

"I urged all not to give any statement without permission from authorities. This creates confusion and is against the policy of the government," the minister added.

On Wednesday, several sources said that Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital will treat VIPs and diplomats who test positive for the Covid-19.

The death toll from the deadly coronavirus rises to 127 and the number of total infected person stands at 4,186 in the country as of Thursday.
