Eight divisions to get cancer hospitals

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said eight cancer hospitals are being constructed in eight divisions spending Tk 2,500 crore.

Already, the works have begun. Heart and kidney treatment facilities will be available along with cancer treatment.

People of other divisions will not have to suffer a lot, even they do not need to go to Dhaka for treatment, he said.

The health minister made the disclosure at a discussion marking World Cancer Day held at National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital at Mohakhali in the capital on Thursday.

Mentioning the treatment cost of cancer expensive, Zahid Maleque said, “Many people come to Dhaka for cancer treatment. The relatives of cancer patient also have to come to Dhaka and stay for long time. The cancer treatment is a time-consuming and also expensive. If the hospitals are constructed, so sufferings of people of different divisions will lessen. There will be around 1000 beds in eight hospitals. As a result, misery of people will be reduced immensely to get treatment for this disease. Therefore, our effort is on.”
