Bangabandhu Chair to be opened in Bangkok Thursday

The first ever Bangabandhu Chair, a Ph.D level doctoral fellowship, would be opened at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

Foreign Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali, who is now in Bangkok, and his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai will jointly inaugurate the "Bangabandhu Chair" at the AIT, foreign ministry spokesperson said in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The "Bangabandhu Chair" is a Ph.D level doctoral fellowship endowed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the AIT for research on the contemporary topic of 'Sustainable and Integrated Smart Energy Modelling' in the context of Bangladesh and other developing countries.

During his Bangkok visit, Ali will hold bilateral talks with his Thai counterpart when a visa exemption agreement for the diplomatic passport holders will be signed between the two countries.

Earlier, Bangladesh foreign minister will call on Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayut Chan-o-cha and attend the "Bangabandhu Lecture" at the AIT.

He will unwrap the historic 7th March speech translated in Thai language of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will join the foreign minister during his Thailand visit.

The Chair has been named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to permanently preserve the country's founding father's footprints in Thailand.
