LGED-ADPC jointly organized Workshop on Climate Change Risk for Rural Roads in Bangladesh

A half-day workshop on ‘Identification of Climate Change Vulnerability and Criticality Indicators for Rural Road and Infrastructures’ was held on 12 July 2022 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka.

This event is jointly organized by Climate Resilience local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC)- Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).

The workshop took place under the chairmanship of Mr. A.K.M. Luthfur Rahman, Additional Chief Engineer & Director of CReLIC.

The workshop brought together engineers from LGED and academic professionals to co-develop vulnerability and criticality indicators for LGED’s Road and road transport infrastructure.

The indicators were endorsed upon group discussion where the facilitation was done by Mr. Anish Joshi, GIS Expert, ADPC and Ms. Sk. Naureen Laila, Resilient Transport Specialist, ADPC.

ADPC is implementing a five-year (2020-2025) regional project called Climate Adaptation and Resilience or ‘CARE’ for South Asia with support from the World Bank.

CARE for South Asia project is supporting the region in building resilience to climate change by improving the availability of regional data and knowledge, developing guidelines, tools and capacities, and promoting climate-resilient decisions, policies and investments across key sectors.

ADPC is working with LGED in Bangladesh to develop and strengthen evidence-based resilient policies, strategies and actions; investment plans that are informed by hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments; and integrate and operationalize key plans and policies into climate-resilient strategic road/rural road development.
