Govt created 6 lakh “posts” in 9 years: Syed Ashraf

The Awami League government has created more than six lakh “posts” under different ministries and agencies in the last nine years, aiming to make the administration more dynamic.

Public Administration Ministry Syed Ashraful Islam came up with the information replying to a starred question from Awami League MP Momotaz Begom (Manikganj-2).

“A total of 6,13,155 new posts were created against the demand of different ministries or divisions during the Awami League government (March 2009-2018) for making the administration dynamic and time-befitting one,” the minister said.

Besides, the creation of 52,079 more “posts” is underway, he said.

The questions and answers were tabled immediately after the day’s business of the Jatiya Sangsad started with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

In reply to another starred question from ruling party MP Jahan Ara Begum Surma (Women seat-32), the minister said 79,249 “posts” were created in the Bangladesh Police in the last nine years.

Besides, 26,396 “posts” were created for Ramu and Lebukhali divisions of the Bangladesh Army during the same period.

Ashraf said some 22,181 officials were appointed under different cadres through 28th-35th BCS examinations since 2010.

Besides, the Public Service Commission has recommended some 2,323 candidates of the 36th BCS examination to be appointed under different cadres. The gazette over the appointment of the candidates will be issued very soon, the minister said.

Apart from this, a process is underway to appoint 1,182, 2,024 and 4,792 officials from the 37th BCS, 38th BCS and 39th BCS examinations respectively.

Besides, 7,485 candidates were recommended to be appointed under non-cadre posts (1st class and 2nd class posts) from the different BCS examinations, he mentioned.

He said 20,513 other candidates were recommended to be appointed against the 1st and 2nd class “posts” through direct job circulars from different ministries and divisions.
