Police to seek INTERPOL’s support to arrest its fugitive members: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has said that the law enforcement agency is working to seek the support of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to arrest its members who went missing after the August 5 changeover.
“We have already begun our efforts, with the help of INTERPOL, to arrest the police members who fled the country after the 5 August changeover,” he added.
IGP Baharul Alam said this while addressing a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Monday.
No innocent individual will be arrest and it will be made on the basis of investigation, said the IGP
A total of 1,500 cases were lodged in connection with the July-August mass upsurge and police have so far submitted charge sheets of two cases, according to Alam.
About the indiscriminate firing at the agitating students during the mass upsurge, he said it will come out through investigation who was the mastermind behind the directive to fire at the agitators.
Underscoring the need to hand over the operational activities of police to a separate commission, the IGP said political interference in the law enforcers must be stopped to ensure transparent and impartial police services.
Alam said that they will observe police week from 29 April to 1 May, where Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus has given his consent to attend the function.
During the programme, the police department will review its activities from the past year and establish a framework for the coming year to ensure better service to the countrymen, he said.
