RAB's intelligence wing involved in killing, enforced disappearance: Alam

The intelligence wing of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was involved in the killing mission and the incident of enforced disappearance, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, said on Wednesday.

He brought the allegation while talking to reporters at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, revealing the findings of a report on enforced disappearances submitted to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

Alam said the report depicts how people were made to disappear and how many of them were killed during the reign of the ousted autocrat Sheikh Hasina government.

The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances has so far identified about 1350 cases of enforced disappearances, with new cases continuing to arise daily. The commission has already scrutinised 1,350 cases of enforced disappearance.

Media should apologise for false reporting on freedom fighter status

The Chief Adviser’s Office has strongly condemned the mass and social media for spreading false information that the freedom fighter status of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and over 400 political leaders was revoked.

“It is a false, baseless and misleading report,” it said, warning of legal action against those responsible for spreading this propaganda.

Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said the government hopes that the news outlets that published the wrong and misleading reports will correct their mistakes.

Furthermore, the news portals should publish a corrigendum and apologize to their readers and the people of Bangladesh who were misled by the reports, he said.

Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad was also present at the press briefing.
