JICA delegation meets DU VC to discuss flood forecast project
A 15-member delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Senior Advisor of its Global Environment Department Dr Masaki Todo, called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan on Sunday at the latter’s office.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Chairperson of the Department of Meteorology Dr Fatima Akter were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed the prospects of undertaking a project titled “Development of a High-Accuracy Flood Forecast System for the Haor Region in Northeastern Bangladesh” with JICA’s financial and technical support.
Dhaka University will act as the implementing institution for this initiative.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard soon.
VC Niaz expressed gratitude to the JICA delegation for the proposal and emphasised DU’s readiness to collaborate with JICA to strengthen academic and research activities.
